MANILA, Philippines – With days to go before elections on Monday, May 9, the vice-presidential race has narrowed down to two major candidates: Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr and Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo.

Marcos averages 28.2% compared to Robredo’s 27.7%, practically a tie between the two leading candidates.

Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero, runningmate of presidential bet Grace Poe and a long-time front-runner in the vice-presidential race, has dropped significantly, registering an average of 17.2%. After peaking in November 2015, he started his decline the month after, and has since failed to arrest it.

Robredo’s trajectory has been the exact opposite of Escudero’s. While Robredo has been on the upward trend, Escudero appears to be out of the running – unless something unexpected breaks in the next few days.

Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, the vice presidential candidate of Davao City Mayor and survey front-runner Rodrigo Duterte, ranks third to the last in a field of 6. He averaged 15% compared to Senator Antonio Trillanes IV’s 3.3% and Senator Gregorio Honasan’s 2.6%.

Our Vice-Presidential Poll Monitor – like the Presidential Poll Monitor – tracks the candidates’ popular trajectory by averaging performance over time and across polls. It also collates dips and dramatic rises as recorded by the 3 pollsters, Pulse Asia, Laylo Research Strategies, and Social Weather Stations.

Hovering over the data points will yield specific details about a particular vice-presidential candidate, including survey rating, date, and polling agency.

Opinion polls are mere snapshots of voter preferences and do not necessarily predict with certainty the outcome of elections. They can, however, provide indicative trends of voter preference over time.

Rappler’s Poll Monitor collects survey data and mirrors the candidates’ rising, falling, or even plateauing popularity. It will be updated constantly as more survey results are released in the lead up to the May 9 elections. – Rappler.com
